Short Lady Chronicles/Tips

Frequently asked question ;"How do you manage to always look so good in all your outfits.?"
The usual when i bump into someone and I'm dressed down;"You so short, you never this short when you all dressed up."

Today, for some reason, that i am not sure of myself.Such questions and compliments,or however you may wanna look at them, are dominating my mind.So as the saying goes,if you can't stop thinking about something, write it down, and it will go away.So thats what I'm doing, sharing tricks that i use to stay stylish, even though i am short.

Short Ladies Hello...
If you go through my outfits, you will notice that i usually wear slim belts,or like wearing outfits that will allow me to cinch my waist. It's not a style statement,or an obsession.I actually do it because it makes me appear taller,or rather, longer in the outfit that i am wearing. It's a saver!

  • Most of my pumps are pointed,i wear a lot of pointed court heels as well.Especially when wearing something short, like a skirt. Why?Well because yes, short girl chronicles. My legs look longer that way...

  • How do i survive with jeans?I am not sure how i survived before, but now i am very thankful for cropped jeans and the style of folding them.I literally fold almost every normal jean i wear. But my first option is always getting a cropped jean. For short people, these are  perfect, they become a normal size jean. Also opt for high waisted jeans/trousers/pencil skirts,it  gives the impression that you are taller,or have longer legs.Which is what we want, right?

  • LBD's or all black outfits are said to make you look slimmer, but they also work well in making you seem tall.
Lastly, because one never gives out all their secrets *inserts hidden face emoticon*
Heels.I mean obviously, heels mean stolen height.Even small heels make a difference, find a height or type that you are comfortable with, and rock them with your outfits, for days that you could do with habit of height.Because lets face it,we can embrace being short because blah, blah, blah, but there are days that we would like to seem tall as well.

And thats just about it,one day, hopefully soon i will share tips on how to avoid drowning in your own clothes when your a short girl. Please do share,if you try any of these tips and they actually work for you as well.

My 2017 Glow Up Products

2017 has been a year of GlowUp for many, including myself. After a lot of trial and errors with many products,i finally found what works for me.

I had an uneven skin tone, random break-outs that usually left me with a lot of dark spots to get rid of,and from time to time,my skin would get dull and tired.
With the year coming to an end,and with all the hype of summer, flawless skin and natural glows,i thought i would share my top picks.

1.I wash my face with Black Soap, but every second day i use the Garnier Pure Active 3in1 Clay wash,to get rid of dead skin cells. My skin has been loving me for it.

2.I cleanse and tone my face with Tea Tree Oil products from Body Shop.It has reduced my dark spots,i have also since said good-bye to alot of them.

3.Daily before my moisturizer,Even & Lovely,i use vitamin C from body shop, then Eucerin sunscreen.Daily!I now, happily have a everyday natural glow, even before washing my face in the morning.I am more confident then i use to be without any make-up.Some days i lipstick and go.And my skin still does the things...

4.Now for Make-Up,as seen on my picks from last year 2016.Estee Lauder is still my number one,i have tried several other brands, but nothing levels up.However,i have now added spring thermal water,as seen on supporting pictures.I use it as a setting spray, when my skin break-outs,when travelling and after long days in the sun and well, whenever i feel like it,after washing my face. Its very refreshing!

5.Lastly,as much as i hate it,i have trained myself to drink more water.Steam my face more often, use a mask atleast once a week, and try to get a full facial monthly. All this is still a work in progress, but is giving me good results, alongside my skincare products.

Though i have found my routine,i would still love to know what's been working for you.so please do share.A picture with all the products under comments will also do...

Hmmm…Personal Shopper you say!

Firstly!A personal shopper is being a personal stylist. It’s basically shopping for someone else and getting a look together for him/her.And yes,its a well paying recognizable career, which actually seems to be on a subtle rise.

Basically;

We help clients define their needs and wants
Recommend specific purchases of goods and services
Keep track of clients preferences,
Help clients put together looks for different occasions
Plan and finalist their final look
Plan the clients wardrobe
And lastly supply networking services such as hair and nails….

These services are mostly taken up by ;

Clients who are too busy to shop for themselves
People who are overwhelmed by all the selections when it comes to making purchases
When a client requires an expert to do their shopping
Clients who are physically unable to shop
Tourists who are unfamiliar with the shopping options.

A personal shopper’s job may be extended to purchasing home furniture and appliances
Promotional Items for a company for their clients and being hired by busy executives to buy their clothing and gifts for special occasions. This is more or less the beauty of it,it obviously does go over and beyond.

Fun,yes?!Not as easy as it seems and definitely for not just about anyone to take up.

What was this blog about though?Me giving you a detailed explanation of what kind of services you may need IdentityU for. Some people are not even aware that such services exist, and would gladly appreciate them. With that being said,i do certainly hope this lands in their eyes,so please do care to share…

The Irresistible Silhouette Series ( Body shapes )

' A woman’s dress should be like a barbed-wire fence:serving it’s purpose without obstructing the view" .-Sophia Loren

Strawberry-Shaped ( inverted triangle ) ladies have a figure thats bigger up top than on their bottom half because of broad shoulders and/or big boobs in relation to their waist and hips.Broad shoulders and slender hips can give strawberries an athletic, even boyish look but its easy to soften with the right wardrobe.

  • To bring out the best in this body type the fuller skirts and wide leg trousers will balance out your body shape beautifully.

  • Don’t be afraid of bright colors on your bottom half
  • Shoulder pads and tapering trousers are an absolute no-no!
  • Also stay away from puff sleeves and epaulettes.

Do Invest in:
Peplum skirts
Straight Jean in light/bright colors
Waterfall Colour shirts
Tunic Dresses
Draped wrap cardigans
Trousers with front pleats

The Banana or Rectangular body shape…

Celebrities that are this shape are : Cameron Diaz,Gwen Stefan and Nicole Kidman. You can follow them on social media to see how they dress up for their body shapes.

Wardrobe Items that will flatter your body :

Mid size belt
Skirt with box pleats
Mid Rise pants with pleats

Hourglass Silhouette

Your are the fitting outlook on Life…

The curvy HOURGLASS lady curves in at the middle, often with a fuller bust and bottom to contrast the smaller waist. If you didn’t relate or see yourself in previous post blogs, then this could be you…

Your body is the most sought out body shape, but, also one which is a struggle to find ready to wear clothes to suit your body.
You need to be aware to not drown your body in too baggy clothes, but also not to go overly sexy either.Do not be caught in boyfriend jeans with skinny tees or loose tees with skinny jeans.
Shapeless baggy clothing will hide your wonderful waist, unless you add that magical belt.

These should work wonders for your body :
Pencil skirts
Fitted Dresses
Wrap around dresses
Skinny Belts
Strapless Tops
Crop Jackets
Skinny Jeans
High waist wide leg trousers

How to understand your silhouette continued

If you are a bottom-heavy lady and are bigger around the hips, bottom or thighs than you are up top ,then, like the majority of women, you are a PEAR!

As promised last week, herein tips for PEAR silhouettes. These bodies are the one’s that most women who are not,die to have.Curvacious much, their hips don't lie!

Embrace those Hips….

  • Flatter your figure by adding more shape and structure above the waist.
  • To bring out the best in the pear figure, balance out your curvy bottom half with bold, bright, colourful tops or top with large collars, lapels or sleeves.
  • It’s best to avoid the tube, pencil and fishtail skirts, especially  tight ones that will only emphasize your hips and behind.

Celebrities that one can look up for outfit inspirations are the likes of Alicia Keys,Jennifer Lopez,Kim Kardashian and Beyonce.

How to understand your silhouette ( Apple )

Everyone of us comes in different shapes and sizes. As much as we’d love to have the perfect figure like the magazine covers exhibit,we don’t.Be honest with yourself, once you know your strengths and weaknesses, you will know what to hide and what to flaunt.

Your body shape can be placed in the following categories :
  • Apple
  • Pear
  • Hourglass
  • Rectangle
  • Inverted Triangle

For the next upcoming 4 Wednesdays,we’ll be covering how to understand each body shape and how to dress fabulously for it.

APPLE

If you are the apple of someone’s eye then you’re pretty in proportion but tend to carry your weight around your mid-section without a well-defined waist.
You may also have fabulous legs/or bust so dressing is all about showing off those best bits and avoid adding volume around your middle. To bring out your best, the empire line and longer length tops will flatter your figure.

Opt for lowish necklines to draw the eye upwards. It’s best to avoid the short, boxy jackets and pleated or tiered skirts.

Celebrity Apples that you can also look up for outfit ideas : Angelina Jolie.Jennifer Hudson,Rebecca Malope,Oprah Winfrey and Queen Latifa.

Some wardrobe essentials to consider
Bra that supports and lifts
Trouser Jeans
Peplums
Swing Tops
Knee length structured Pencil skirt

What not to wear?
Big puff jackets
Big shapeless garments that don’t show any waist or don’t use vertical layers
Bulky trousers with lots of pockets and zippers at the front
High necklines (you can wear lighter tops underneath a layering piece as shown in the top image)
Tight clingy T-shirts

PS.Dark Colours always work best at making you look slimmer!

For the Working Woman

Today more than ever before, with women making up a large percentage of the total workforce – many demands are made on their time and most women complain, that they simply do not have enough time – time for their families, chores and themselves!
A woman’s six strengths – your time saving helpers
  1. Women are people orientated. – Business is built on relationships with people.
  2. Women take time to listen and are then able to solve problems more easily.
  3. Women are able to talk out about problems.  They are generally more open and comfortable about sharing feelings.
  4. Women can deal with more than one situation/person or even multiple demands simultaneously.
  5. Women are flexible – They easily adjust to changes and interruptions.
  6. Women are natural planners.  Women are creative and resourceful when it comes to getting things done.
Overcome the slow-start syndrome at work
  • Allow time for personal grooming before you leave home.
  • Catch your breath if you must upon arrival, but for no more than ten minutes.  Have a cup of tea/coffee.
  • Control interruptions by standing up from your desk and moving to your files.
  • Look past the small insistent demands that tempt you and force yourself to move on to the larger, more important tasks.
  • Accept the fact that many assignments don’t have to be perfect.
  • Ask for help when you don’t know how to do something.  Find someone you can trust who will willingly give you answers that enable you to proceed or delegate.
The Mind Sweep
First thing in the morning take ten minutes of quality time and do a mind sweep – write down all the things that need to be done – home, work, personal, birthdays etc – all the things that clutter your mind.
You can then prioritise them in order of importance and compile your daily ‘To Do List’ and ‘Daily Planning Sheet’
Try the ‘Bucket’ system
Women normally have creative minds and don’t file things.  The bucket system, using a box or a bin, is a realistic and reliable way of coping when you are working on more than one task at a time – dump all the irrelevant items and then place all the relevant paperwork in a receptacle and file it later.
Time Boosters
  • Tie all your ‘roles’ (mother, taxi driver, cook, cleaner, professional woman) into a carry bag.  Carry a ‘portable office’ – (but leave the kitchen sink behind!)
  • Use a filo-fax type diary for all your important personal and business dates and information – including your ‘to do’ list for home.
  • Always carry pens, tipex, a note pad, paper clips, scissors, envelopes, stamps and ‘post it’ notes as well as an assortment of birthday and other cards.
You cannot beat the clock – you can only accomplish what you are able to do- and you need to balance your life – or you will come off the rails…
More about balancing your life next month – but for now- why not do the best you can and embrace life – use your strengths as a woman to gain more time for the ones you love and most of all for you – and be the best you can be till next time.
